Eatontown Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash Monday

The fatal crash happened at 2:05 p.m. Monday on Rt. 35 in Shrewsbury:

SHREWSBURY, NJ — An Eatontown man died Monday during a motorcycle crash.

The man was identified as William H. Eckert III, 54, of Eatontown.

The fatal crash happened on Rt. 35 in Shrewsbury, according to Shrewsbury Police: He was heading south on Rt. 35 when he drove into the back of a cargo van at 2:05 p.m.

This was just a few minutes before the start of the solar eclipse, which started at 2:10 p.m. Monday, but police have not said in any way that the eclipse caused the crash.

The accident occurred about 300 feet south of Sycamore Avenue, said Lt. Adam Cerminaro.

EMS responded, but Eckert died at a local hospital.
