Eatontown Man Was Person Hit, Killed By Train Last Thursday

An Eatontown man has now been identified as the person hit and killed by a train last Thursday evening in Little Silver​.

LITTLE SILVER, NJ — An Eatontown man has now been identified as the person hit and killed by a train last Thursday evening in Little Silver.

The man who was killed is David Fortin, 67, of Eatontown, an NJ Transit spokesperson said on Monday. He formerly worked for Amtrak; here is his obituary.

Tragically, Fortin was hit by a North Jersey Coast line train at approximately 5 p.m. last Thursday. He was struck where the railroad tracks cross White Road in Little Silver.

Fortin was believed to be walking when he was hit; he was not in a vehicle.

Little Silver Police Chief Paul Halpin did say this was a "tragic, unfortunate incident," and he stressed that there is no danger to people who cross the train tracks there, or walk along White Road.

His death and the incident remain under investigation, said NJ Transit. NJ Transit refused to release any further information about the incident.
