WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ — A West Long Branch firefighter has been criminally charged with falsifying and destroying official records, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Tuesday.

Ronald Guidetti, 61, of Long Branch is charged with third-degree false uttering, third-degree forgery and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with records.

The prosecutor says he falsified training certificates for one specific firefighter at West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2; that firefighter was not named.

The prosecutor started investigating earlier this year, when concerns were raised over the validity of two specific training certificates for a single firefighter.

The prosecutor alleges that not only did Guidetti create the falsified certificates to respond to an OPRA request, but he also removed the certificates from the filing system and destroyed them once the request was fulfilled.

Guidetti turned himself in to authorities Monday, and he has been released pending his first court hearing into this matter.
