Grocery Store, Gas Station, More Townhomes Proposed For Ft. Monmouth

A grocery store, a convenience store, gas station and new park are all coming to Fort Monmouth, plus more townhomes:

EATONTOWN, NJ — A grocery store, a convenience store and a gas station are all coming to the old Fort Monmouth property, a spokeswoman for the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority confirmed.

All will be built on what's known as the Howard Commons section of the abandoned U.S. Army base. The developer is U.S. Homes/Lennar Corporation and they are currently under contract to buy the 60-acre parcel from the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA).

FMERA previously said Lennar also plans to build townhomes on that 60-acre Howard Commons parcel; you can see a rendering of how the townhomes will look above. The townhome complex will be called Liberty Pointe.

Lennar also plans to build a seven-acre park, with soccer fields, with a sidewalk to connect to Eatontown's Memorial Middle School, the Asbury Park Press reported this week: Homes, apartments and grocery could replace derelict Fort Monmouth housing in Eatontown (Sept. 20)

The Fort Monmouth Army base is about 1,000 acres and spans the towns of Eatontown, Oceanport and Tinton Falls. The U.S. Army shut down the base in 2011.
