Kevin Smith Returns To NJ For Q&A At Monmouth University

LONG BRANCH, NJ — Kevin Smith is returning to where it all began. No, not Quick Stop from "Clerks," but to his native Monmouth County.

Smith will hold a Q&A with loyal fans at Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre (400 Cedar Ave., Long Branch) at 9 p.m. April 24. Tickets cost $30-40 and will benefit FilmOneFest and the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council.

The filmmaker was born in Red Bank and grew up in Highlands. Smith is best known for creating films that take place in his View Askewniverse, which features films and series such as "Clerks," "Jay & Silent Bob" and "Chasing Amy."

Smith's films tend to prominently feature the Garden State. Fans can still visit the Quick Stop convenience store in Leonardo, which was first featured in "Clerks" in 1994.

Smith suffered a severe heart attack in 2018, when he underwent emergency surgery. Since then lost 58 pounds in eight months and released the "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" last October.

At the Q&A, Smith will discuss his career in filmmaking, beginnings in New Jersey, superheroes, comic books, gaming and life in general. He will answer questions from the audience. Click here for tickets.
