LONG BRANCH, NJ — The Takanassee Bridge will undergo significant renovations. Improvements will include new light fixtures, concrete repairs and new sidewalks on the bridge that's fallen into disrepair.

Monmouth County will finance the project.

“The Takanassee Bridge has fallen into disrepair in recent years,” Mayor John Pallone said in a statement. “When I asked Freeholder Director Arnone if the county could repaint the bridge, he said not only would the county do that, they would substantially upgrade the bridge.”

Plans include new light fixtures with efficient dimmable bulbs, concrete repairs, sandblasting, coating and staining the railings, new sidewalks, and coating and sealing the deck of the bridge.

The project was designed to minimize traffic impact. In a few weeks, the project will go out to bid and conclude 60 days alter. The road will only be closed for one day, and affected drivers can use Lake Drive as a detour.

“The salt water and high winds take a toll on the bridge’s light fixtures," said Armone, "so that is why they will be replaced and the waterproofing of the bridge deck will extend the life of the bridge.”
