Monmouth Medical Center Expands With New Tinton Falls Medical Offices

Monmouth Medical Center continues its suburban expansion: The hospital will open new medical offices on Corregidor Road in Tinton Falls.

TINTON FALLS, NJ — Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) is continuing its steady expansion into suburban Monmouth County:

This week, the Long Branch-based hospital announced they purchased a 38-acre parcel of land at Corregidor Road and Pearl Harbor Avenue, on the former Fort Monmouth site in Tinton Falls. RWJBarnabas purchased the property from the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA), the powerful public authority that controls all the land at the former U.S. Army base.

RWJBarnabas will pay FMERA $8 million for the property.

MMC plans to open medical offices there, with a provision it could be expanded into an entire new hospital, "should there be a future need," said parent company RWJBarnabas on Tuesday.

"This hospital would be an expansion of the care already provided at Monmouth Medical Center, and would operate in conjunction with the Long Branch campus," said Central Jersey healthcare giant RWJBarnabas.

Construction will begin sometime in 2023; an exact month has not been released.

It's the same FMERA board that agreed this year to sell a 298-acre lot on Fort Monmouth to Netflix to open a film studio. (The deal was just finalized this week; get details here, including sale price.)

This new medical office is Monmouth Medical Center's second major expansion out of urban Long Branch into the heart of wealthy, suburban Monmouth County.

This past summer, MMC opened a pediatric and women's health office next to the Boscov's at Monmouth Mall. The Anne Vogel Family Care and Wellness Center opened in July to much fanfare.

This second, new location will similarly be called the Vogel Medical Campus at Tinton Falls.

Both were funded with hefty, $50-million donations from local Monmouth County philanthropist Sheldon Vogel, and his late wife Anne. Vogel is the former chief financial officer for Atlantic Records; he lives in Colts Neck. He is a major Jersey Shore philanthropist.

Here is what RWJBarnabas says will be offered at the new medical office on Corregidor Road:

  • Same-day surgery
  • Advanced diagnostic imaging (MRIs, etc.)
  • On-site specialty physician offices
  • The cornerstone of the new medical facility will be a cancer center in partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey

"All of these services will be provided in a park-like setting designed to promote a healing environment by embracing the natural landscape with green vistas and outdoor seating and walking areas," said RWJBarnabas in a statement.

There are currently two small, unutilized buildings on the property that will be removed as part of the project, said RWJBarnabas.

“We are excited to take ownership of the property and begin the process of constructing a truly incredible facility,” MMC president and CEO Eric Carney said this week. “The Vogel Medical Campus is located within the communities we currently serve and will be designed to meet the unique needs of our diverse and growing community now and in the future.”

Also, RWJBarnabas and arch-rival Hackensack Meridian appear to be competing for Monmouth County healthcare customers.

The same summer RWJBarnabas opened their women's and children's center next to the Boscov's, Hackensack Meridian opened brand-new medical offices in the former DSW on Rt. 35, also right next to Monmouth Mall. Hackensack Meridian also offers women's and children's healthcare from that building. Read that story: Rivals RWJBarnabas, Hackensack Meridian Open Monmouth Mall Outposts (August 2022)
