Mostly Sunny Skies, Fairly Calm Seas At Monmouth Beaches Today

The National Weather Service is calling for a low risk of rip currents today and wave heights of only two feet

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ - It looks like a pretty nice day ahead for Monmouth County beaches. If you're lucky enough to have the day off, go for it. Summer is finite.

The forecast for the next several days is the same, a gloomy "chance of showers and thunderstorms." So today will be your best day to hit the beach.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies today, with highs in the mid 80s. Winds will be from the northwest at around 5 miles per hour, becoming south in the afternoon. The lightning threat is low, which means there's little chance of thunderstorms.

The rip current risk today is low. But don't let your guard down. Rips can occur anytime, any place, especially near jetties, groins and other structures. Be sure to check with your local beach patrol for any problem areas. Never, ever swim in an unguarded area and never swim alone or at night. The NWS advises swimmers to take flotation devices with them in the water.

Waves today will be around 2 feet, with light swells. The ocean water temperature is a very balmy 77 degrees, although temperatures may vary from beach to beach.
SubscribeThe ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high. Don't forget your sunscreen or you'll pay for it tonight.
