DEAL, NJ — Route 71 will have overnight lane closures throughout the next several weeks due to the Route 71, Cedar Avenue to Route 35/Neptune Boulevard Pavement Preservation Project, the NJ Department of Transportation said on Wednesday.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights, a single lane on Route 71 is scheduled to be closed from Cedar Avenue in Deal to Route 35/Neptune Boulevard in Eatontown, according to officials.

The lane closures are necessary for pavement repairs, the NJ Department of Transportation said, and will continue at the same time until late September.

During these closures, traffic will be maintained using lane shifts or alternating traffic on the sections of Route 71 where one lane is maintained in each direction, according to officials. When Route 71 is two lanes in each direction (between Roseld Avenue and Jerome Avenue), at least one lane will be maintained during construction.

In addition to lane closures on Route 71, ramp and side street closures will also be necessary throughout the duration of the project for pavement repairs, officials said.

These closures will take place Monday through Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day for the next several weeks. Motorists affected by ramp and side street closures are advised by officials to follow the signed detours.

This work is part of a $5.5 million federally funded project that will "preserve approximately seven miles of pavement on Route 71 between Cedar Avenue in Deal and Route 35/Neptune Boulevard in Eatontown, Monmouth County," the NJ Department of Transportation said.

The project includes paving most ramps within the project limits, repairing curbs and reconstructing drainage inlets, according to officials. The NJ Department of Transportation expects the project to be completed in Fall 2024.

Officials advise drivers that the timing of this work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
