LONG BRANCH, NJ — The day after there was a shooting spree in Long Branch, where someone fired a gun into two separate homes and shot a man at the QuickChek, the Long Branch vs. Neptune homecoming football game, scheduled for this Friday night, has now been moved to Saturday at 10 a.m.

This is due to "public safety concerns."

This was reported by the Asbury Park Press, which obtained a letter sent out by Long Branch school superintendent Francisco Rodriguez.

There will also be no fans in attendance at the game.

Also, Rodriguez said "cancellation of the game is still an option," to keep students, players and staff safe. The school district also said all games scheduled to be played at Long Branch will now be played away for the next two weeks, and all evening and weekend events have been canceled.

Just last Friday, Asbury Park High School had to cancel its homecoming football game against Keansburg, due to threats of gun violence and shootings at the game. It was Keansburg High School school officials who received threats of shootings at the game, and decided to forfeit the game against Asbury Park.

There have been no arrests made in the spree of shootings in Long Branch Monday afternoon. The spree started with a gun fired into a home at 2:45 p.m., then a man was shot at the West Long Branch QuickChek later that night, and then more shots were fired into a second home just before midnight.

A group of people is behind all the shootings, say authorities.

"We believe these are not random crimes and are targeted to specific individuals involved in an altercation," said Long Branch's new Public Safety Director William Broughton, who said Long Branch police detectives are "aggressively" working with the county to find the perpetrators.
