LONG BRANCH, NJ — Trains on Long Branch's line are late or cancelled nearly 10 percent of the time, according to New Jersey Transit. NJT released a new data tool that tracks delays, cancellations and service issues on its trains and buses dating back to 2017.

The data was made public following an executive order from Gov. Phil Murphy, who has said improving NJ Transit is one of his administration's main goals. Click here to see the dashboard.

North Jersey Coast trains were late or cancelled 9.7 percent of the time between January 2017 and October 2019.

NJ Transit set a goal for the line to run on time for 95 percent of trains. NJ Transit's graph shows data points from once a month.

According to the graph, the North Jersey Coast Line ran most efficiently Feb. 18, 2018, with 95.4 percent of trains showing up on time. The line ran least efficiently Nov. 18, 2018, with only 80.7 percent arriving on time.

NJ Transit will update the data once a month.

Here were the top reasons for cancelations last October on the North Jersey Coast Line:

  • crew/engineer availability: 49 percent
  • mechanical: 30.6 percent
  • human factor: 12.2 percent
  • infrastructure: 6.1 percent
  • carryover/other: 2 percent
