$14.5 Million Mahwah 'Sanctuary' Up For Sale

34-acre estate is one of the priciest properties in Bergen County.

A 20-bedroom, 20-bathroom property on Ramapo Valley Road in Mahwah is on the market for $14.5 million.

The 100-year-old house overlooks Ramapo Valley Road and is surrounded by horse farms and nature preserves.

St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Teaneck purchased the property 60 years ago for $92,500 and turned it into the Carmel Retreat, The Record reported. But the facility shut down in 2012.

According to Sotheby’s International Realty, the property was recently subdivided, but, The Record said, because of the state Highlands Act, the property can only be subdivided into two lots, each with a single-family house.

The Record reported that the property has been approved for subdivision, and could be sold in two 17-acre lots, one for $9.5 million, the other for $5.5 million.
