Fleeing Brielle Man Arrested For Theft: Cops

A 30-year-old Brielle man was arrested for a cash theft after fleeing, police said.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – A 30-year-old Brielle man was arrested for a cash theft in Point Pleasant Boro after fleeing, police said.

The Brielle man was identified as Robert P. Ryan. The suspect reportedly took $2,200 from the victim’s wallet, police said.

The incident happened on Friday when officers were dispatched to 2500 Route 88 for a verbal dispute regarding a theft, police said. Prior to the officers' arrival, the suspect fled on foot, police said.

Officer Travis Popiel and K9 Juno were dispatched to the area to assist officers in the search. Several officers and the public also assisted and the suspect was apprehended on Hastings Lane, police said.

The stolen money was located nearby, police said.

Officer James Kavanagh charged Ryan with third-degree theft by unlawful taking, fourth-degree obstructing administration of law and defiant trespassing.

Ryan was transported to the Ocean County Correctional Facility on an arrest warrant pending a detention hearing.
