NJ Towns With Sex Offenders At Halloween In 2019: Where Are They?

NEW JERSEY – Before kids go out trick-or-treating for Halloween, fall is a good time to take an inventory of who is living in your neighborhood. Patch put together maps in 74 towns – using the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry – to identify where sex offenders live (see below).

New Jersey's registry lists only Tier II and Tier III offenders, or those who are considered at risk of committing another offense. Tier III is the most serious and considered a high risk. We only created maps for New Jersey towns that have Patches.

Find your town on the list below, and click on it. Then find the map, where you'll see the pins on the map that represent addresses of offenders convicted of sex crimes.

You may want to avoid trick or treating at these houses and apartments on Halloween, or merely be aware of who's living in your neighborhood during the rest of the year.

The New Jersey State Parole Board in 2015 barred registered sex offenders from passing out candy on Halloween.

Law enforcement officials and researchers caution that the registries can play only a limited role in preventing child sexual abuse and stress that most perpetrators are known to the child. The U.S. Department of Justice, which oversees the National Sex Offender Public Website, estimates that only about 10 percent of perpetrators of child sexual abuse are strangers to the child.

The Justice Department estimates 60 percent of perpetrators are known to the child but are not family members but rather family friends, babysitters, child care providers and others, and 30 percent of child victims are abused by family members. Nearly a quarter of the abusers are under the age of 18, the department estimates.

• Barnegat: The Barnegat area has 11 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Basking Ridge: Basking Ridge currently has two registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offender listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Bedminster: There are 3 registered sex offenders recorded as living in Bernardsville and Bedminster in 2019.
• Belleville: There are 18 registered sex offenders living in the Belleville-Nutley area, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Belmar: The Manasquan and Belmar area has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Berkeley Township: The Berkeley Township area has 11 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Bernardsville: There are 3 registered sex offenders recorded as living in Bernardsville and Bedminster in 2019.
• Bloomfield: There are 13 registered sex offenders living in Bloomfield, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Brick: Of the 25 listed in Brick on the registry, all of them are mapped and none are currently incarcerated. There are no Tier III offenders listed in Brick as of Oct. 8, 2019.
• Bridgewater: Bridgewater currently has six registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Cedar Grove: There are 6 registered sex offenders recorded as living in Verona and Cedar Grove in 2019.
• Cherry Hill: Cherry Hill currently has 17 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Cinnaminson: Cinnaminson currently has four registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Clark: Clark currently has one and Garwood has two registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Collingswood: There are currently nine registered sex offenders living in the Haddonfield, Haddon Township and Collingswood area, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Cranford: Cranford currently has four registered sex offenders.
• Eatontown: The Long Branch and Eatontown area has 12 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Edison: The Edison-Metuchen area currently has four registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Englewood: Englewood currently has 11 registered Tier 2 sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Fair Lawn: Fair Lawn currently has four registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Fanwood: Scotch Plains currently has two and Fanwood has one registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Farmingdale: The Howell and Farmingdale area has 11 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry. There are no Tier III offenders listed in Howell as of Oct. 8, 2019.
• Flemington: The Flemington area has six registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Freehold: The Freehold area has 18 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry. There are no Tier III offenders listed in the Freehold area as of Oct. 8, 2019..
• Galloway: The Galloway area has 19 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
  
• Garwood: Clark currently has one and Garwood has two registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Gloucester Township: The Gloucester Township area currently has 13 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Hackettstown: The Hackettstown area currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Haddon: There are currently nine registered sex offenders living in the Haddonfield, Haddon Township and Collingswood area, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Hazlet: The Hazlet area has several registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Hillsdale: The Hillsdale and Westwood are currently has two registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Hoboken: There are seven registered sex offenders living in Hoboken as of October 2018, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Hopatcong: The Hopatcong-Sparta area currently has 10 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Howell: The Howell and Farmingdale area has 11 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry. There are no Tier III offenders listed in Howell as of Oct. 8, 2019.
• Jefferson: The Jefferson area has three registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Jersey City: The Jersey City area has 218 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Lacey: The Lacey Township area has eight registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Long Branch: The Long Branch and Eatontown area has 12 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Mahwah: Mahwah currently has one registered sex offender listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Manahawkin: The Manahawkin area has six registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Manasquan: The Manasquan and Belmar area has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Manville: Manville currently has seven registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Manchester: In Manchester, there are 33 listed in the registry. In Lakehurst, the registry lists four offenders. There are three Tier III offenders listed in Manchester and Lakehurst. One man listed in the registry with an address in Manchester is listed as "wanted." He no longer lives at the address listed (and subsequently, the pin has been removed from the map).
• Maplewood: Maplewood currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Matawan: The Matawan area currently has several registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry
• Metuchen: The Edison-Metuchen area currently has four registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Middletown: The Middletown area has a number of registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Montclair: There are three registered sex offenders living in Montclair, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Morristown: The Morristown area currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• New Milford: There are 4 registered sex offenders recorded as living in New Milford in 2019.
• North Bergen: There is one man currently living in Secaucus and another man currently living in North Bergen. They both have been convicted of sex assault.
• Nutley: There are 18 registered sex offenders living in the Bellville-Nutley area, according to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Ocean City: Ocean City has 2 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Paramus: Paramus currently has one registered sex offender listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Parsippany: The Parsippany area currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Point Pleasant: The Point Pleasant area has eight registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey State Police Sex Offender Registry.
• Raritan: Raritan has four Tier 2 - moderate risk and one Tier 3 - high risk sex offenders on the list.
• Ridgewood: Ridgewood currently has one registered sex offender listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Saddle Brook: Saddle Brook currently has six registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Secaucus: There is one man currently living in Secaucus and another man currently living in North Bergen. They both have been convicted of sex assault.
• Scotch Plains: Scotch Plains currently has two and Fanwood has one registered Tier 2 - moderate risk sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry for 2019.
• Seaside Heights: In Toms River, there are 78 listed in the registry; one is currently incarcerated and one address could not be mapped. In Seaside Heights, the registry lists 25 offenders. There are two Tier III offenders listed in Toms River and three in Seaside Heights (one is incarcerated).
• Sparta: The Hopatcong-Sparta area currently has 10 registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Summit: The Summit area currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Teaneck: Teaneck currently has five registered sex offenders listed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry.
• Toms River: In Toms River, there are 78 listed in the registry; one is currently incarcerated and one address could not be mapped. In Seaside Heights, the registry lists 25 offenders. There are two Tier III offenders listed in Toms River and three in Seaside Heights (one is incarcerated).
