Numerous Summonses Issued After 'Pop Up Car Meet' In Belmar

Numerous summonses were issued after a "Pop Up Car Meet" was held in Belmar on Saturday.

BELMAR – Numerous summonses were issued after a "Pop Up Car Meet" was held in Belmar on Saturday.

The event happened at approximately 8 p.m. when the Belmar Beach front was inundated with vehicles and participants of what is referred to as a “Pop Up Car Meet,” police said.

The event was generated through social media such as Instagram and Facebook, police said. The organizers of this event had previously held these meets across Monmouth County as well as the entire state, using social media as their platform to invite participants.

The borough of Belmar and the Police Department say they were not aware of the event and that the meet would take place on Ocean Avenue.

Within 20 minutes, the entire beach front was filled with vehicles participating in this event. Extra patrols were called in and assistance from surrounding towns was requested, police said.

Numerous summonses were issued for motor vehicle violations as well as the borough noise ordinance, police said. There were no major incidents during this time and all vehicles left the area by approximately 12 midnight.

The Belmar Police Department was able to locate information of the group through Instagram and will be monitoring the site for any further events.
