MANCHESTER, NJ — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Manchester area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer with or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Manchester area:

Military Support Alliance Food Warriors Program.

1. Inspire-NJ: This nonprofit operates The Barn, which provides work readiness skills for young adults with an autism diagnosis or who have intellectual disabilities in a restaurant setting. The Barn also hosts Inspire-NJ's social programs for those age 60 and older. It also operates the Joel E. Perlmutter Memorial Food Pantry, to assist those facing food insecurity. The Barn is at 1330 Route 70 in the Whiting section of Manchester.

2. The Manchester, Whiting and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Companies. The fire companies are always seeking volunteers to help fight fires and protect homes and lives in the community. They assist at motor vehicle crash scenes and provide support for a variety of functions.

3. Manchester Township PTA. The PTA serves all of the schools in the district, providing a variety of programs from author visits to the elementary schools to mini-grants to teachers at all levels to provide specialty items to support student learning that fall outside the district's budget. Volunteers are always needed.

4. Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey: The organization provides companionship and support for those 60 and older in the community through a variety of programs including medical transportation, respite care for family caregivers of Alzheimer's patients, companions for those living alone, grocery shopping assistance and more. The more volunteers they have the more families and older residents they can assist.

5. Military Support Alliance of New Jersey Food Warriors. The Food Warriors collect food donations to support families of active duty personnel stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst who struggle with food insecurity. Food donations and monetary donations to purchase food items are always needed.
