Jon, Tracey Stewart's Colts Neck Farm Proposal Approved by Monmouth County

Next, the farm animal sanctuary must be approved by Colts Neck township.

Colts Neck, NJ - Jon and Tracey Stewart are one step closer to their dream of opening a farm animal sanctuary in Colts Neck.

On Tuesday night, the Monmouth County Agriculture Development Board approved the couple's proposal to turn Hockhockson Farm on Rt. 537 into an educational center. Monmouth County also approved plans to grow and sell produce on the farm, and a plan for waste treatment on the property, a county spokeswoman said.

What still remains to be approved is Tracey Stewart's vision of converting Hockhockson into a sanctuary for rescued livestock, such as pigs and cows.

The next step in a proposal such as this is to present those plans before the township of Colts Neck for approval, said Laura Kirkpatrick, a spokeswoman for Monmouth County.

Rescued farm animals, such as horses, cows, pigs and sheep, will live on the farm, as will between 15-50 caretakers, Tracey Stewart has previously said. It would likely not open until 2017.
