Hampton Inn Opening In Old Bridge

Lots of development news in the Old Bridge/Sayreville area: A Hampton Inn will open next summer and a developer hopes to build 'Riverton.'

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — There's been lots of development news in the Old Bridge/Sayreville area lately!

A Hampton Inn by Hilton will open in Old Bridge Township on Spring Valley Road on Rt. 18 and Rt. 9 South, MyCentralJersey reported. The hotel is expected to open in the mid-summer of 2019.

Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry told the newspaper that Old Bridge needs a hotel because of the expansion of Hackensack Meridian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center-Old Bridge, and the popularity of Raceway Park.

"It's very exciting," Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry said. "It's the first of many to come to Old Bridge. We are such a big town and there is no place for visitors to stay. There are quite a few venues in town that have weddings, and the guests usually have to go out of town. People come from all over the country to go to Raceway Park and yet they can't stay here."

A 315,000-square-foot warehouse also recently opened on Waterworks Road in Old Bridge. It is owned by Kennedy International, which will be the only tenant and which relocated to Old Bridge from the Dayton area of South Brunswick. They chose the Old Bridge location because its closer to Newark airport and the ports, the company said.

This comes in addition to talk of a massive redevelopment project pitched for the Sayreville area: A 418-acre redevelopment project along the Raritan River in Sayreville called "Riverton," a planned mixed-use community that includes residential, retail, entertainment, a marina and a hotel. However, unlike the hotel and the warehouse, that project is still in approval stages and still needs "critical" financing from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.
