Manalapan Man Shot By Old Bridge Cops While Stabbing Woman: Prosecutor

OLD BRIDGE, NJ —The man shot by Old Bridge Police officers Saturday night at the Hampton Inn on Spring Valley Road while stabbing a woman was identified as 42-year-old Christopher Serrano, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said Monday.

Serrano, of Manalapan, was shot by police while he was stabbing a woman with scissors in their hotel room, said the prosecutor. The man and woman had met online, according to the prosecutor's office.

The woman is from South Carolina.

At approximately 2:57 a.m. Sunday, March 3, Old Bridge Police were called to the Hampton Inn (300 Spring Valley Road) for a report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Serrano inside a hotel room, stabbing a 55-year-old woman with scissors. In response, officers shot at and struck Serrano.

As of Monday midday, Serrano remains at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick being treated for gunshot wounds. A spokeswoman for Prosecutor Ciccone said her office cannot yet release how many times Serrano was shot, or how many officers fired at him.

The woman was also taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with multiple stab wounds. She has been treated for her injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Serrano was charged with first-degree attempted murder, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
