(April 14, 2024) – HudsonWay Immersion School based in the NY/NJ area is proud to offer a very unique 2 week summer experience from June 30-July 13 where US and international students from Mandarin and Spanish speaking countries come together to learn about the great outdoors in a traditional camp setting. Students ages 8-13 spend half of the day learning in either Mandarin or Spanish, and half of the day learning in English. This program gives students studying Mandarin or Spanish an opportunity to connect with native speaking international students and teachers in a language immersion environment. For students from Chinese or Spanish speaking countries, it offers a supportive introduction to American students and culture and the English language all while enjoying activities such as swimming, boating, ziplining, archery, ropes climbing and so much more! The camp is situated on a beautiful 220 acre campsite in Northern NJ.

The immersion experience is designed to provide a 50/50 split between English and the target language. Each morning starts with breakfast, followed by team building activities, hands on outdoor learning on topics such as pond ecology, ornithology, tree identification, or wilderness survival in English, followed by a deepening of the discovery in either Mandarin or Spanish. Students then have lunch, followed by a choice of engineering projects or arts and crafts. Students then have a choice of various camp activities such as high ropes climbing, boating, swimming, archery, or ziplining led by certified staff. Dinner follows, and evening activities such as movie night, campfires and game night begin! A fun-filled day ends with reflections and journal writing in the target language to capture memories of new friendships and experiences.
