MILLBURN, NJ — The Township of Millburn is encouraging residents to register early for a Dec. 3 public workshop on Millburn’s Downtown Vision Plan. Use the link at twp.millburn.nj.us/visionplan.

The plan will explore how to revitalize and re-envision the Downtown Business district. It will look to build upon and leverage Millburn’s history, natural resources, anchors, community institutions and organizations, and other unique qualities.

Downtown Millburn has assets: a historic “main street,” one-seat ride to Midtown Manhattan, a popular regional theater, and parks. Improvements to the Downtown streetscape have also made it more pedestrian-friendly.

However, the town notes, "an increasingly competitive economic environment, development pressures, and frequent flooding present significant challenges to its future."

This plan will provide a strategy for how Millburn’s Downtown can support its existing retail base and better position itself for future growth and long-term sustainability.

The town hopes to be informed by a wide range of viewpoints while respecting the need for social distancing protocols. As such, the township will be sponsoring two virtual public workshops, two online surveys, and targeted meetings with stakeholders.

The plan is being led by a multidisciplinary team of designers, planners, and retail experts consisting of Perkins Eastman, BFJ Planning and Streetsense.

The Dec. 3 workshop will run from 7 to 9 p.m. The meeting will take place over a Zoom virtual conference (see link below). All interested residents, property owners and other stakeholders are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts on the vision, goals and objectives for Millburn’s Downtown.

There is also an online survey and brainstorming tool to help gather ideas for the Township to consider. There will be another public survey and a second virtual workshop in late fall/early winter to present initial concepts as they are developed.
