Montclair Extends Grace Period For 3rd Quarter Tax Bills

Any payment received after the new grace period will have interest calculated back to Aug. 1, Montclair officials said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair is extending the grace period for its 3rd quarter tax bills to Sept. 6, town officials recently announced.

Any payment received after will have interest calculated back to Aug. 1. The interest on late payments for taxes is calculated at a rate of 8 percent on the first $1,500 and 18 percent for any amount over $1,500, retroactive to the first of the month, a municipal advisory states.

“The Montclair tax and utilities payment office sees dozens of property owners come in every day to pay their bills. Check payments may be dropped off into the drop box located outside, at the front of the building, next to the U.S. Postal Service mailbox. Montclair residents may pay their tax and utility bills online using e checks or a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express cards. There are user convenience fees associated with paying your bill using a debit or credit card. There is no charge for payment by e-check. When the transaction is complete, you will receive a ‘payment confirmation’ email from the processing company. Your payment is now pending, and it will be routed to a clearing house where verification of account information will begin.”
