MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Planning Board recently ruled that two parcels of property near the Walnut Street Train Station don’t meet the requirements to be declared an “area in need of redevelopment.”

During their April 11 meeting, the board unanimously voted against recommending the designation for Block 3307 Lot 7, and Block 3304 Lot 1, which are owned by 34 Label Street Associates.

The Montclair Town Council authorized the planning board to carry out a study to determine if the properties qualify in August 2021. The results of that study can be seen here.

The proposal now goes back to the council, which can choose to move forward with the designation despite the planning board’s recommendation.
