Morristown, NJ—On Saturday, June 8th, 2024, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Morris and Sussex Counties hosted its annual fundraising event, “CASA at the Zoo.'' This year marks the 4th year the nonprofit has brought this magical evening to life.

More than 400 supporters of CASA, including foster children, trustees, staff, and volunteers, gathered for a night under the stars at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange. With the Zoo exclusively reserved for CASA, guests were free to explore unimpeded by lines or crowds, as they enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, snacks, carousel, train rides, as well as the petting zoo. Guests marveled at animals from around the world while photographers captured family photos against the beautiful backdrop of flamingos throughout the evening.

As in previous years, the goal was to raise unrestricted funds for CASA programs, and to highlight the importance of CASA’s advocacy for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Sponsorship support allowed CASA to provide tickets to over 150 children and foster families to attend the evening at the zoo.

“We were thrilled to host this event with the entire CASA family of dedicated supporters, volunteers, staff, and board members. Above all, we are delighted that the children, youth, and foster families we serve could enjoy this special evening. The funds raised will enable us to expand our programs and improve the advocacy we provide to children in foster care." said CASA of Morris and Sussex Counties’ Executive Director, Dr. Lisa Barsky Firkser.

Funds raised will go directly to support summer activities for children in the foster care system including summer camp; swimming, art, music, and dance lessons; and educational tutoring. CASA’s next fundraising event (“Tee Off for CASA”), a Golf Outing, will be held on Monday, October 21st at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club.
