MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — It's a hot one out there, Morris County. But if you're looking for something to do this weekend, we rounded up a few "cool" events — both indoors and outdoors.

Keep in mind that there is a heat advisory in Morris County until 6 a.m. Sunday morning. An excessive heat watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, with the National Weather Service saying heat index values up to 100 degrees possible.

Cool down at a local splash pad

  • The Pirate's Cove splash pad in Mount Olive updates their hours daily on Facebook, and is free to enter, with access for people of all abilities. Located at 30 Flanders Road, Budd Lake, NJ.
  • Randolph Park Spray Park and Beach are open, and memberships are available for purchase. Non-residents may pay to enter daily, but on weekends and holidays only township residents and members are allowed in, per the township website. Located at Randolph Lake, 43 Green Lane, Randolph, NJ.

Garden State Comic Fest

Comic lovers can get some exclusive books and merchandise, participate in a cosplay contest, attend weekend panels, and more. There is also a charity art auction Saturday benefiting 11th Hour Rescue.

  • Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (VIP entry at 9:30 a.m. both days) at Mennen Arena, 161 East Hanover Avenue, Morristown, NJ.
  • VIP passes are available online. Tickets are also on sale at the door; $40 Saturday and $35 Sunday.

Farmers markets in Morris Plains and Morristown

It's officially summer, meaning there are a colorful variety of fruits, veggies, and other enticing eats at local markets.

  • Morris Plains: Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 771 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ. (Running June 8 until Oct. 12)
  • Morristown: Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spring and Morris Streets, Morristown, NJ. (Running June 16 until Nov. 24)

Giralda Farms Music and Arts Festival

The New Jersey Symphony is the featured performer at this festival, which opens at 3 p.m. for picnics, children's activities, more music, and an art show. Proceeds benefit Morris Arts programs.

  • Saturday, June 22 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Giralda Farms, Route 124 and Dodge Drive, Madison NJ.
  • Tickets are $4 for kids four and older, $25 for adults, and $20 per person for groups of 10 or more.

Morris County Pride Festival

Browse local vendors and food trucks, check out musical acts and drag performers, and celebrate Pride Month at this festival, which is organized by community center EDGE NJ. Any donations made at this free event support their services for LGBTQ+ people and those who are living with HIV.

  • Saturday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph, NJ.
