Newark Woman Punched, Robbed While Sitting On Her Porch: Police

A Newark resident was sitting on her porch when a man with a gun got out of a minivan, walked up and punched her in the face, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for a man who punched a victim in the face and robbed her at gunpoint as she was sitting on her porch earlier this week, authorities announced Thursday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the robbery took place on Sunday, Aug. 11. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“At approximately 10:06 p.m., the victim was sitting on the porch of her home on Houston Street when the suspect stopped in front of the house in a silver minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey. He exited the vehicle carrying a weapon then walked onto the porch, where he punched the victim in the face and snatched her purse containing $200 and bank cards.”

After the robbery, the man fled in the vehicle northbound on Houston Street toward New York Avenue, authorities said.

Police said the suspect is a male who is 5 feet 9 inches with a medium build. He was wearing a black ski mask and a hoodie.

The minivan had tinted rear windows and dark-colored rims, police noted, sharing surveillance photos taken at the scene (see below).
