Several Newark Apartment Buildings Have Their Water Shut Off: Reports

The landlord owes nearly $1 million in unpaid water bills to the city, a report says.

NEWARK, NJ — Nearly two dozen apartment buildings and properties in Newark are dealing with shut-off water service due to their landlord’s outstanding utility bills with the city, reports say.

The owner of the properties – Boomers Investment Group – has $945,798 in unpaid water bills at 22 locations in the South, Central, West and North wards that have not been paid since October, TAP into Newark reported. Read the full article here.

“I know it’s terribly unfair to the tenants, but at some point these landlords leave us no choice but to shut off the water,” the city’s director of water and sewer said.

Water service has since been restored for some tenants, who have also complained about previous issues such as mold, rats, water damage and elevators that don't work, News 12 New Jersey reported.
