In school environments, there tends to be an intense pressure on children. There are a few ways to ease the pressure and one of them is by interacting with therapy dogs. Therapy dogs can help children learn social skills which in return can prevent social isolation. A social catalyst effect has also been found to be caused by interactions with therapy dogs.

On Friday, September 30th, Cedar Hill Prep’s third and fourth graders had a visit from Koko the therapy dog! Kristine Smith, a former CHP parent and whose daughters were members of CHP’s first graduating class, was gracious enough to share her therapy dog with us for the day. The students learned about what therapy dogs do, why people use them, and the training they go through. The best part was that the students got to pet and play with Koko! Isn’t that just adorable? This special visit certainly made our Friday afternoon a lot more fun!
