Here's Exactly What's Happening With Landing Lane Bridge

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — There are somewhat confusing media reports as to what's happening with the Landing Lane Bridge in New Brunswick.

From the NJ Department of Transportation on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, here's exactly what's planned:

The Landing Lane Bridge over the Raritan River will be closed for emergency repairs, but a date has not been finalized. This is because a car crashed into the retaining wall on the southeast corner of the bridge in September, causing damage.

Due to holiday lane restrictions, work on the Landing Lane Bridge will not begin on Monday, November 27 (some local police have reported it will), said the NJ DOT.

"Construction may start later that week, at the earliest, but a date has not been determined yet," said the DOT. "Construction is expected to require a one-month closure for vehicles crossing the bridge. However, pedestrian access will be maintained while repairs are taking place. NJDOT will release a traffic advisory to provide advance notice before work begins."

In 2025, a full Landing Lane Bridge replacement project is supposed to happen. The project, which is estimated to cost $4 to $5 million, will entirely replace the bridge. This includes reconstructing the bridge decks, girders and abutments.

The full bridge replacement is supposed to happen sometime in 2025.
