New Brunswick Man Killed After Car Flips Into Millstone River

A New Brunswick man was killed after his car crashed through a guardrail and flipped into the Millstone River Saturday morning.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A New Brunswick man was killed after his car crashed through a guardrail and flipped into the Millstone River Saturday morning.

The crash happened at 6:10 a.m. March 16 on Rt. 533 (River Road) near the intersection of Belle Mead-Griggstown Road in Montgomery Township.

Montgomery Police say Erik Rivera, 31, of New Brunswick, was driving a 2011 Lexus GS350 east on Belle Mead-Griggstown Road before he crashed through the guardrail at that intersection. The Lexus left the roadway, coming to rest on its roof against the embankment on the opposite side of the river.

The car was upside down, partially submerged in water, and the driver, Rivera, had to be pulled from the vehicle by first responders.

Rivera was taken to RWJUH-New Brunswick, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
