Redfin calls Ocean City “an ideal beach vacation for the whole family.”

Ocean City earned a “Walk Score” of 86, meaning it is “very walkable.” Walk Score is based on walking distance to nearby amenities, with points awarded for proximity. Amenities within a 5-mile walk earn the most points, and those with a walk of over 30 minutes don’t earn any points.

Population density, block length and intersection density are also factors, and Redfin uses Google, Education.com, Open Street Map, the U.S. Census, Localeze, and places added by the Walk Score user community as sources.

Ocean City was the only town in New Jersey that made the list, which consisted of eight beaches.

“Ocean City provides many fully guarded beaches and water temperatures in the 70s,” Redfin says in its description. “The famous Boardwalk is home to shops, restaurants, entertainment (think bouncy houses and miniature golf), and at least a half dozen ice cream shops. A free ‘Family Night’ event is held weekly throughout the summer.”

Santa Cruz, California, earned the top spot.
