Pedestrian Hit And Killed On Rt. 18 In New Brunswick

At 4:52 a.m. Christoph Freese, 45, of New Brunswick, was struck and killed while attempting to cross Rt. 18 near Commercial Avenue.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A pedestrian attempting to cross Rt. 18 north was hit and killed in New Brunswick Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, New Brunswick police confirmed.

The crash shut down local lanes of heavily-traveled Rt. 18 in and out of New Brunswick Tuesday morning. Drivers encountered heavy traffic and delays starting in East Brunswick.

At approximately 4:52 a.m. Christoph Freese, 45, from New Brunswick was struck and fatally injured while attempting to cross Rt. 18 near Commercial Avenue. He was struck by a 2006 red Dodge Charger driven by a 32-year-old Woodbridge man. The driver was driving northbound on Rt. 18 at the time of the incident.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision is ongoing and there have been no charges issued at this time.
