Middlesex County History Day Is May 13

Experience art, culture and craftsmanship as historical interpreters bring history to life at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway:

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Middlesex County History Day is back in a big way this year and will be held on Saturday, May 13:

Held at East Jersey Old Town Village in Piscataway from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Come experience art, culture, craftsmanship and architecture as historical interpreters bring history to life.

There will be countless activities for the family: Home & hearth demonstrations, traditional musical performances, wagon rides, children's crafts, stone carving and even a 19th century print shop.

With a dedicated children’s area and a historical tavern, there is fun for guests of all ages. Swing by the general store for some snacks and souvenirs; and visit local food trucks to round out your time traveling experience.

East Jersey Old Town Village is comprised of reconstructed and replica 18th and 19th century structures that represent architecture typical of farm and merchant communities once found in the Raritan Valley. Buildings include a tavern, blacksmith shop, wheelwright shop, schoolhouse, barracks, church, the homes of early settlers and other outbuildings.

Also, take a short trip over to the Cornelius Low House to check out the Micah Williams exhibit. With over 40 paintings on view, visitors can come to face to face with Middlesex and Monmouth County residents. The exhibition offers viewers the opportunity to explore family relationships among the sitters as well as a glimpse into a prospering agrarian society through clothing, furniture, backgrounds, and props featured in the portraits.

The exhibit will be on display at the Cornelius Low House Museum, 1225 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 from April 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024.

East Jersey Old Town Village and the Cornelius Low House are free and open to the public year-round, Wednesday through Sunday with living history interpreters onsite April through October.
