Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of YAUHENI E. LIAKHNOVICH (DOB: 09/01/1994; single; unemployed) of 1309 River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ on charges of aggravated arson and criminal mischief. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton, and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels.

At approximately 1:01 a.m. on September 11, 2021, the Fair Lawn Police Department responded to the report of a fire in the rear of the B&B deli located at 12-17 River Road in Fair Lawn. Wooden pallets had been ignited by an unknown source, which damaged a vehicle in the area prior to being extinguished by the Fair Lawn Fire Department. Fair Lawn Police requested that the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Task Force respond to the scene.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on September 20, 2021, the Fair Lawn Police Department responded to the report of a vehicle fire located at 8-14 Hopper Avenue in Fair Lawn. The fire was extinguished by members of the Fair Lawn Fire Department.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 5:19 a.m. on September 20, 2021, the Fair Lawn Police Department responded to the report of a vehicle fire in a Chase Bank parking lot located at 13-51 River Road in Fair Lawn. The fire was extinguished by members of the Fair Lawn Fire Department.

An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Task Force and the Fair Lawn Police Department determined that YAUHENI E. LIAKHNOVICH set all three fires intentionally.

As a result of the investigation, LIAKHNOVICH was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(2); and one count of third-degree criminal mischief, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3a(1). He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Fair Lawn Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
