Dumont Stigma-Free Committee organizes supporting Task Force

Residents band together to help neighbors get mental health care they need

On October 23, 2019, the Dumont Stigma-Free Committee held an organizational meeting of its supporting Stigma-Free Task Force.

The main mission of the DSFC is to remove the stigma associated with mental illness, so that those suffering from mental health issues will feel free to seek and obtain the help that they need without shame.

The Committee's extended Task Force is comprised of residents and others within the Dumont community, who volunteer to assist the Committee in its work. This includes the implementation of various projects, events, and activities.

"We had a terrific turnout, with about 30 people at the meeting", said Karen DeMarco, Chair of the Dumont Stigma-Free Committee. "For our campaign to really have an impact, we need people from throughout the community to help us in this important work. There isn't anyone in town whose family isn't affected to some extent by mental health issues, particularly anxiety and depression."

If you are interested in joining the Dumont Stigma-Free Task Force, please contact Karen DeMarco at [email protected].
