Free Tree Seedlings In New Milford: Here’s How To Get Yours

New Jersey officials have 12,500 free tree seedlings ready for planting in 2017. Here's where to get yours, New Milford.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — About 112,500 free tree seedlings will soon be available to New Jersey residents in 128 towns — including New Milford — as part of an ongoing partnership between the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign, State Forest Service and the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation.

The New Milford tree seedling giveaway will take place April 29 at 9 a.m. at the recycling center at 850 Robert Chester. Residents are eligible to receive up to five free seedlings. Proof of residency is not required.

"The seedlings, which are about two to three feet high when distributed, should be planted promptly to ensure they take root and thrive," State Forester John Sacco said. "Residents should be mindful of their planting site's surroundings by avoiding overhead utility lines and proximity to structures in case of storms, and considering the size of the tree when fully grown."
