Legislation Paves The Way For A Dave & Buster's In Bergen County

Representatives advance a bill that would allow businesses to hold both amusement game and liquor licenses.

A 1959 law that prohibits businesses form holding both amusement game licenses and liquor licenses could be done with, providing an opportunity for Dave & Buster’s to open a business up in Bergen County.

The state Assembly Regulatory Oversight Committee voted unanimously to release a bill that would allow establishments that occupy at least 20,000 feet and contain at least 100 amusement games to hold both state licenses, NorthJersey.com reported.

The bill is sponsored by Assemblymen Joseph Lagana (D-Paramus), Gordon Johnson (D-Englewood), and Scott Rumana (R-Wayne) is meant specifically to bring a Dave & Buster’s, or a similar establishment, to the state.

“The only thing standing between a multi-million job creator like Dave & Buster’s, which is interested in opening multiple locations here as soon as possible, and the state of New Jersey is one outdated law,” Lagana said in a statement after the committee voted on the legislation, the website reported.

Dave & Buster’s has been trying to open locations in the Garden State for two years, the website said.
