NJ Firefighters To Fly Balloon In Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The firefighters will walk the balloon down the streets of New York City during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

NEW MILFORD, NJ — Keep an eye out for New Milford firefighters during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City Thursday.

New Milford firefighters will be flying the new Smokey The Bear balloon during the parade. But there is a chance the parade's 16 balloons might not even be flown.

Wind is forecast to blow between 18 and 26 mph, with up to 40 mph gusts, on Thanksgiving Day, the National Weather Service's forecast shows.

New York City regulations state that balloons cannot be flown when winds exceed 23 mph and gusts top 34 mph, the New York Post reported.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be broadcast live on NBC from 9 a.m. to noon. There will also be a live 360-degree stream broadcast on YouTube via several cameras placed along the parade route.
