DUMONT, NJ — A pedestrian died in a hit-and-run in Bergen County and authorities are reportedly searching for the driver.

A vehicle struck the pedestrian around 5:15 p.m. near Washington and Madison avenues in Dumont, Bergen County prosecutors said, according to multiple media outlets. The driver did not stay at the scene.

Dumont police wrote in a Facebook post Thursday night that West Madison Avenue was closed between Washington Avenue and Park Avenue due to an activate police investigation.

"Avoid the area and expect delays," police said.

The pedestrian's name is being withheld until the family has been notified.

A description of the vehicle wasn't immediately released.
