Bergen County Teen Arrested For Sending Threats To Obama: Prosecutor

Hackensack 17-year-old allegedly had "friends" In the Islamic State who were planning to attack New York City, authorities said.

A Bergen County teenager who allegedly threatened President Obama and was involved in several “swatting” incidents in Indiana was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

The 17-year-old from Hackensack, who authorities referred as J.C. due to his age, was arrested after an investigation revealed that he used the Internet to send threatening messages towards President Obama and the White House, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

J.C. also ”made threatening references to being involved in” an attack on the 9/11 Memorial in New York City and to having “friends” in the Islamic State who were planning to attack the city, Molinelli said.

The New Albany Police Department in Indiana identified J.C. as a suspect in several “swatting” incidents there; J.C. allegedly made the threats from his Hackensack home, Molinelli said.

J.C. was charged with two counts of juvenile delinquency for making terroristic threats and was released into his mother’s custody, authorities said.

Authorities executed a warrant at his home Tuesday and may file additional charges after performing a forensic analysis of electronic devices that were seized, Molinelli said.

The New Albany Police Department is also investigating J.C. and is expected to file charges shortly related to alleged crimes he committed there, authorities said.
