Red Light Cameras Could be a Thing of the Past in NJ by Mid-December

The red light camera program expires in mid-December and can be terminated then, unless the legislature decides to extend it.

Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon met with Congressional candidate Dr. Alieta Eck yesterday in an attempt to rid red light cameras in New Jersey.

O’Scanlon, who feels the devices are simply cash-grabbing and can cause more accidents, is determined to rid red light cameras in the state, My9 reported.

“It’s a bigger issue. It’s about good, honest government not designing a way to steal from its people. And the people that would hoist this type of scheme on us, we should let them know that we’re not going to tolerate it,” Scanlon told My9.

And Eck agrees.

“It’s harassing the motorists. It’s making them stop short, perhaps getting rear-ended or if they go through the light they’re getting a $175 fine which is a lot,” Eck said.
