OCEAN CITY, NJ — During a council meeting Thursday, Mayor Jay Gillian announced that a consulting firm will be studying several potential locations for the construction of “one or more” parking garages in Ocean City.

Over the past few months, business owners from both the Boardwalk and the downtown have talked to Gillian about the need for parking.

“Mostly what I tell them is really we’ve been focused on infrastructure and our stormwater management, and parking garages can be expensive,” Gillian said.

However, the city has solicited a proposal from a nationally recognized parking consultant to study six potential city-owned sites for a parking garage.

“The objective of the study will be to evaluate the possible layouts, the construction costs, the operating costs, potential revenue for one or more garages in several possible locations,” he said.
