PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Boonton Township man has been charged with aggravated assault following an alleged road rage incident last week in Parsippany.

According to the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department, on Thursday afternoon, John R. Connelly, 36, reportedly attacked a 58-year-old motorcycle driver and a 76-year-old crossing guard who had stopped traffic for students crossing at the intersection of Route 202 and Brooklawn Drive.

Police responding to a report of a motor vehicle crash were told that Connelly stopped behind the motorcycle and exited his pickup truck when the biker stopped to allow the children to cross the street.

According to police, as he got out of his truck, he began physically assaulting the motorcycle's driver, whose identity has not been released.

"According to reports, the 76-year-old Crossing Guard attempted to intervene and was allegedly shoved to the ground by the defendant. The defendant then continued to assault the motorcycle driver until other motorists intervened," Parsippany Police Sgt. Brian Conover said.
