PARSIPPANY, NJ — A man from West Orange was arrested in Parsippany last week after police said he was seen attempting to break into parked cars in the area.

Nacosh Crawford, 21, of West Orange, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit burglary, exhibiting a false government document and other traffic offenses.

At about 6:23 a.m. on Nov. 26, a resident on Rita Drive reported that they saw a sedan drop off a person dressed in black, who was later allegedly seen pulling on vehicle door handles and attempting to gain entry, police said.

As patrol officers began to check the surrounding area for the vehicle and person, Ptl. Jesse Hughes saw a 2022 BMW X7 exiting a driveway on Sedgefield Drive and leaving the area.

Hughes also saw a dark-colored Kia with its headlights off slowly moving away from the residence the BMW X7 left.

The Parsippany Police Department was ultimately able to locate the BMW X7 and pull over the driver, later identified as Crawford. A check of the temporary license plate of the vehicle showed that it had been reported stolen by the Newark Police Department.

Officers on the scene contacted the residents of the stolen BMW X7. The homeowners told authorities that their house had been burglarized previously and that the keys to the vehicle, as well as the vehicle, had been taken, the police department said.

Crawford was placed under arrest, taken to Parsippany Police Headquarters, and then later taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
