PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany firefighters and rescue officials rescued a couple who got stuck on a little island while searching for their missing dog, authorities said.

The two township residents, who have not been publicly identified by police, decided to cross the Rockaway River to gain access to a small island, believing that their dog had followed the same path.

However, while on the little island, the pair became stranded, necessitating the response of various fire departments, EMS units, and members of the Parsippany rescue and recovery team.

Emergency personnel deployed boats into the water and ultimately were able to bring both victims back from the island.

The pair were treated at the scene and later taken to Morristown Medical Center for further evaluation due to the cold temperatures and water exposure, Conover said.

No additional information on the incident was made available.
