PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Parsippany man working as a home health aide in Hanover Township has been charged with assaulting an elderly non-verbal dementia patient, authorities said.

Dilshod Umarkhanov, 60, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual contact, endangering an injured victim and simple assault.

Officer Robert Miele of the Hanover Township Police Department arrested Umarkhanov after the victim's daughter caught Umarkhanov on camera hitting the victim in the genitals and face.

The charges were filed on Thursday, May 11, after the victim's daughter reported to investigators that her father, a nonverbal dementia patient with two home health aides, "had recently been pointing to his groin and face area." She told Miele that while she didn't understand what her father was saying, he appeared to be in pain, though no bruises or cuts were visible, according to the police.

The victim's daughter told Miele that she had received a phone call from a recently hired aide, who told her that on Tuesday, May 9, he heard her father yelling from another room but didn't see anything.

On Wednesday, May 10, this aide heard screaming again and saw Umarkhanov, who had been hired four months before, pushing and punching the victim while restraining him, according to police.

After hearing this, the victim's daughter bought a camera and hid it in the house. She then turned over the video to the police, which showed Umarkhanov hitting her father in the genitals and face.

On May 11, officers responded to the victim's residence and arrested Umarkhanov as he arrived for work. Umarkhanov was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending his court date.
