Man Dies After Being Pulled From Morris County Lake By Lifeguards

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A man who was pulled out of Lincoln Park Community Lake on Thursday by a group of lifeguards has died.

The 67-year-old man, whose name was not released by police, was found unresponsive in the water by lake lifeguards and emergency personnel after an extensive search.

According to Captain John Clements from the Lincoln Park Police Department, the incident is not believed to be suspicious in nature, but an official investigation remains ongoing. On Friday, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office also confirmed that it was taking part in the investigation.

Lake lifeguards, police officers, and firefighters all assisted in the search for the missing swimmer, who was discovered and immediately taken to Chilton Medical Center for his injuries.

"He was pulled from the lake and immediately transported to Chilton. Since he was immediately turned over to medics I cannot confirm if he had a pulse upon being pulled from the water," Clements told Patch. "I can confirm that he did not survive."

Police currently believe that the man was swimming in the lake when he became fatigued or had some kind of medical emergency.

Lincoln Park Community Lake, located at 37 Ryerson Road, is a municipal swimming facility that offers canoeing, kayaking, and row boating, among other recreational activities.

"Our goal is to provide Lincoln Park with a variety of recreational, educational, enrichment, and health and wellness opportunities for all residents of all ages to enhance the quality of life for our residents and community to continue to make Lincoln Park the best place to live, play and thrive," the borough website says.
