Son Charged In Father's Christmas Eve Slaying In New Jersey: Cops

Officers found the 61-year-old dead while responding to an emergency call at the house the father and son shared, prosecutor says.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A son has been arrested in connection with the Christmas Eve slaying of his father in the Boonton Township home they shared, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said Monday.

Boonton police officers were dispatched to a home on Old Denville Road in Boonton Township in response to an emergency call at around 1:15 p.m., and when they arrived, they found Gregory Meyer, 61, dead, according to Carroll.

Investigators determined his son, Kyle Meyer, 33, was a suspect, and he was detained in Paterson at around 9 p.m., Carroll said.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct an examination of Meyer's body, according to Carroll.

His son has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon and has been detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing, Carroll said.

The investigation "remains active and ongoing," and investigators "are not seeking an additional suspects," he stated in a news release, adding that "there is no danger to the public."

Further details were not released.

Carroll's office did not immediately respond to requests for more information.
