Teen Fatally Shot Morris County Man, Injured 2 Others: Prosecutor

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting earlier this month in Paterson that left a Morris County man dead and two others injured.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated that the unnamed teenager was charged with crimes of juvenile delinquency that would be the equivalent of murder, conspiracy, attempted murder, and weapons violations if tried as an adult.

The shooting took place at about 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 3, in the area of Broadway and Rosa Parks Boulevard, officials said.

According to authorities, Jerrell Wright, a 23-year-old man from Riverdale, was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

The remaining victims, Shaheem Clark, a 19-year-old male from Elmwood Park and Charles Obee, a 57-year-old male from Paterson, survived. According to Valdes' office, Clark suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and Obee is in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The teenager was arrested on Thursday morning and is being remanded in custody pending his initial court appearance.

According to officials, the investigation is still ongoing.
