'Dangerous' Snow Squalls, 40-MPH Winds Expected In NJ

NEW JERSEY – "Dangerous" snow squall warnings were issued in New Jersey on Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued several warnings for "dangerous snow squalls" during the morning hours, adding that more may be coming during the afternoon hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement throughout New Jersey, saying snow showers and snow squalls are expected through Saturday afternoon.

A snow squall warning was issued in North Jersey at 10:45 a.m. The NWS said a dangerous snow squall was located along a line in North Jersey, extending from Highland Lake to near Blooming Grove and Sugar Notch and moving southeast at 25 mph.

A snow squall also has been moving southward across southern New York and northern Pennsylvania, producing up to a half inch of snow and visibility as low as one quarter mile at times.

Visibilities will drop quickly to one mile or less in heaviest snowfall. Winds may gust up to 40 mph at times. Snow accumulations are expected to remain below one inch.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution if you must travel this afternoon. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads are likely to lead to accidents. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling.
